How it works

Simple, fast, and private

1. Scan

Point your camera at a document. Skanae detects the edges, crops the page and corrects the perspective.

2. Read & categorize

With Pro, on-device OCR reads the text and an on-device AI model suggests a category and a file name. Nothing is sent to a server.

3. Save where you want

Keep the PDF on your device or in iCloud, or connect OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox. Your choice, your control.

  • Private by design - Scans, OCR text and AI processing stay on your device. The app has no analytics.
  • Works offline - Scanning needs no internet connection
  • No account - Nothing to sign up for

Frequently asked questions

Is Skanae free?

Skanae is a free download. Scanning, multi-page PDF export and saving to local storage or iCloud are free. A Pro subscription adds AI auto-categorisation (which includes the on-device OCR), smart file names, learning from your corrections, and the OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox connections. Current pricing is shown on the App Store page.

Does Skanae work offline?

Yes. Scanning and saving to local storage work without a connection. With Pro, the on-device AI model is downloaded once; after that, categorisation also runs without internet. Uploading to iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox needs a connection.

Are my documents uploaded anywhere?

No. Scans, OCR text and AI categorisation stay on your device. A file leaves your device only if you turn on a cloud storage such as iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox, and then it goes straight to that provider. The app also downloads the AI model once and checks your subscription status; neither involves your documents.

Does Skanae track me?

This website counts visits with a self-hosted, cookie-free statistics tool; details are in the privacy policy. The app itself contains no analytics SDK and no ads.

Which iPhones and iPads does it run on?

Skanae runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 18.6 or later.

How do OCR and auto-categorisation work?

With Pro, the text of a scan is read on the device with Apple's Vision framework. An on-device AI model then suggests a category, such as Bills & Invoices, Receipts & Proof of Purchase or Identity Documents, and a descriptive file name. If you change the category, Skanae remembers it for similar documents. You can also add your own categories. AI categorisation and OCR are Pro features.

Which cloud storage can I use?

iCloud and local storage on your device are free. OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox are Pro. You choose which storages are turned on, or keep everything on the device.

How do I get support?

Email support@skan.ae and include your iPhone or iPad model and iOS version if something is not working.
